- Honda EM1 e-scooter unveiled
- Limited riding range of just 48kms
- Positioned as an urban scooter
Honda has taken the wraps off one of the brand new electric scooters – the EM1. This new e-scooter will first reach Europe and then launch in other markets.
The EM stands for electric moped and is being positioned as an entry-level EV for the urban cities of the world. Due to this thought process, the overall performance and range figures are relatively low. This e-scooter uses a hub-mounted motor with a peak power output of 1.7kW. There’s one mode that reduces the overall top speed and also has a slower throttle response.
This Honda uses a Mobile Power swappable lithium-ion battery. This battery weighs around 10 kg. The charging time for this battery is about six hours, but the charging time from 25 per cent to 75 per cent is approximately 160 minutes. This battery pack churns out a limited range of 41kms in standard mode. The scooter can be ridden for about 48kms when the ECON mode is activated.
Regarding cycle parts, the EM1 gets 90/90-12 tyres up front and 100/90-10 at the rear. The braking duties are handled by a 190mm disc with a single-piston at the front and a 110mm drum at the back. The combined braking system (CBS) is standard.
The price of the EM1 is yet to be revealed, but it will be pretty affordable. While this e-scooter looks quite nice for the Indian market, the lower riding range and top speed will not attract customers. Hence, it won’t be launched in India. But the Japanese brand is looking to launch an electric version of the Activa sometime next year, and that e-scooter is likely to get some new features and useable performance and riding range.
