- Likely to use a swappable battery system
- Could rival the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube Electric, Ola S1 and the upcoming Suzuki Burgman Electric
With electric mobility growing rapidly in India, it’s no secret that every mainstream two-wheeler manufacturer too wants a piece of the cake. And the next one to do so seems to be Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI). The same can be confirmed from HMSI president, Atsushi Ogata’s recent interview with ET Auto where he said “…. able to see an actual HMSI EV product within the next financial year”.
While the Honda Benly e (B2B offering) was spotted doing ARAI test last year, we think Honda India will likely bring the Activa E as its first offering. Going by the fact that the Honda Activa managed to drive scooter sales for the brand successfully over the years, it only makes sense for the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer to enter the Indian EV market with the Activa moniker.
Expect it to feature a swappable battery system since a lot of first time EV buyers in India may not have the appropriate charging point setup at their home. Moreover, with Revolt and Bounce’s existing battery swap ecosystem, Honda India can have a fair idea of if the model would work out and what improvements will be needed. Not to mention, the push from the Indian government for electric mobility will also play a key role.
Expect the upcoming Honda electric scooter to rival the likes of the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube Electric, Ola S1 and the upcoming Suzuki Burgman Electric.
