- 2022 Honda RS-X underbone launched
- A motorcycle in a sport scooter-like avatar
- India launch won’t take place
Honda has unleashed the all-new 2022 RS-X underbone-style two-wheeler in Malaysia. While it looks like a sport scooter similar to the Yamaha Aerox 155 that recently entered India, it’s essentially a geared motorcycle with a scooter-like chassis design. It belongs to Honda’s globally acclaimed Cub family of two-wheelers. Notably, such underbone motorcycles are quite popular in south-east Asian markets.
The notable trait of the 2021 RS-X is undoubtedly its radical design. The muscular front apron houses a wide split LED headlamp with a central air intake in its handlebar cowl. The sleek tail too has air scoops with the rest of the body panels being contorted and angular. Accompanying its attractive styling are modern features like full-LED lighting and a fully-digital instrument cluster.
Clinging on to its underbone chassis is a 149cc, single-cylinder engine that’s capable of pumping out 15.6bhp of power and 13.6Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels are that are suspended by telescopic forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Stopping power comes from a single disc at both ends.
Honda has pegged the 2022 RS-X at RM 8,688 (approximately Rs 1.56 lakh) in Malaysia. Owing to the lack of demand for such two-wheelers in India, the RS-X won’t come here, at least not anytime soon.
