While rumours that Honda is planning to introduce an RCV-based superbike have been going around for quite some time now, it seems that the time has finally come. Japanese media has reported that the Honda RCV-derived road bike, rumoured to be christened RC213V-S, will make its maiden public appearance at the 2014 EICMA Show in Milan.
While other manufacturers continue to build the hype around their products, Honda has been tight-lipped about this new litre-class superbike and even the rest of its line-up for the EICMA Show. If the rumours are indeed true, the EICMA Show will become the platform for the three-way battle between Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha. Unlike Kawasaki and Yamaha, who have been previewing their next-generation flagship motorcycles through teaser videos, Honda has refused to even acknowledge the existence of the new motorcycle.
While the name RC213V-S might not sound exciting, it surely brings out the motorcycle’s racing lineage. The report goes on to say that the RC213V-S will be powered by a 1000cc V-4 engine, which will produce in excess of 200bhp. Honda will spec the motorcycle with the latest electronics and suspension package. Expect the motorcycle to be produced in limited numbers with a ridiculously high price tag, which should make it the NR750 of this era.
