Honda India has become the second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, overtaking Bajaj Auto who enjoyed the coveted spot for a long time.
As per the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Honda sold a total of 26, 06,841 units, that includes automatic scooters and motorcycles in the domestic market. Bajaj Auto sold 24, 63,863 motorcycles during the same period. Hero MotoCorp currently sits on the top with annual sales of 59, 12,538 units.
Honda India is aiming to increases its sales by 42.7 per cent to 39.3 lakh units. The company is planning to achieve this by launching new products and increasing their production capacity by setting up its third plant in Karnataka. It is expected to be operational by end of the first quarter and will take the Japanese manufacturer’s annual capacity to 40 lakh.
