- Borrows design cues from the current Activa
- Gets a hub-mounted motor
- Could benefit from a removable battery
Honda has patented a new electric scooter design in India. The image reveals a bevy of information about the probable upcoming e-scooter including its design and mechanicals. Let’s have a look at it.
The front portion (handlebar cowl and headlight) look similar to the current Activa unit while the remaining bodywork seems fresh. Overall, the patent design hints that Honda EV will be more focused on the utility aspect.
It’s equipped with a hub-mounted motor which helps reduce the clutter and the cost of production as well. Apart from the battery to power the motor, the patent design also shows a 12V battery unit that’ll power other components on the scooter. As per the leaked images, the e-scooter is equipped with conventional telescopic forks and a single rear spring. Moreover, the CVT case has made for a possible double-sided swingarm. It’s mounted on a 10-inch rear wheel with drum brake.
This isn’t the first time that Honda has filed a design patent in India. It’s filed patent for a maxi-scooter, an e-scooter, an off-road maxi-scooter and more in the past. However, if the latest one will come to fruition or not will only be known as the time passes.
