- Honda patents touchscreen head display for motorcycle windscreens
- Patent illustrates the set up demonstrated on Africa Twin
- Will use a projector and capacitive touchscreen layer
With motorcycles getting more modern by the day, the instrument clusters have also become equally fancier showing a comprehensive amount of data. While the full-colour TFT display is still a novel feature, Honda has already hinted on what the future of instrument clusters behold. According to Honda’s recently-surfaced patent, the company is working on head up display with touchscreen functionality.
The patent illustrates a setup which will use the motorcycle’s windscreen to project the data on. This will make reading the information easier for the rider while not blocking the view as it will be a see-through display. Although head up displays have already been implemented on four-wheelers, Honda will introduce a new interactive touch operable setup. For the same, the company plans to integrate a capacitive touchscreen layer into the part of the windscreen on which the information will be projected.
The patent shows the head up display being fitted on the Africa Twin which gets an upright windscreen, aiding in easy legibility of the data. On the other hand, the illustration also shows a Honda CBR1000 Fireblade equipped with this set up which has a very short windscreen. In this case, a touchscreen pad will be mounted on top of the fuel tank on which the data will be projected.
Currently, there’s no information about when Honda’s touchscreen head up display will become a reality. However, the pace with which the bikes are becoming advance, it wouldn’t be long before we see such technology on one of the Honda motorcycles.
