Honda sales up by 20 per cent

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced a 20 per cent growth in two-wheeler sales in July 2017, as compared to July 2016. The company recorded its highest ever export numbers in the last month, by shipping 32,569 two-wheelers to its international markets.

Overall, Honda sold 5.44 lakh two-wheelers in July 2017. Of these, the company sold 5.11 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market in the last month, which is 19 per cent higher than the corresponding numbers in July 2016. The scooter range continues to be the biggest volume generator for Honda, accounting for 72 per cent of Honda’s domestic sales. Spearheaded by the Activa 4G, sales for Honda’s scooter range grew by 40 per cent in July 2017 over July 2016. The motorcycle range on the other hand, recorded an 11 per cent increase. The export numbers in the last month grew by 34 per cent. Honda’s exports now account for 15 per cent of the total two-wheelers exported from the country.

Honda had announced intentions to launch four new products in the current year, of which the Africa Twin and Cliq have already gone on sale. Within two months of its launch, Honda has already sold the 50 units that had been allocated for the Indian market. The Cliq meanwhile, is being introduced across the country in a phased manner.
