Honda sold 4.92 lakh two-wheelers in August, thereby setting a new personal record for monthly two-wheelers sales in the country. Spearheaded by the increasing demand for its scooters, the company registered a 25 per cent growth in the last month over the corresponding period in 2015.
A major chunk of these numbers were made up by scooters with sales growing by 27 per cent. Honda motorcycles also registered an impressive 11 per cent jump in sales numbers. Even the overseas markets have turned out to be favourable for HMSI, with export numbers touching an all-time high of 26,074 units in August. The Dio and CB Hornet 160R were among the most popular models in these markets.
The capacity constraint at its manufacturing plants was one of the reasons for Honda’s mediocre growth so far. Now though, with the secondary production line at its Gujarat plant becoming 100 per cent operational, the company is now working on reducing the waiting list for its scooters.
Speaking about their performance in August, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Sr VP, sales and marketing, HMSI said, “August has been a historic month for Honda Two Wheelers India. Adding over 93,000 units (YoY basis), Honda’s total sales, automatic scooter sales and exports reached all-time high in August 2016. The new capacity of our fourth plant gives us wings to grow at a faster pace and prepare for festive period like never before.”
