Honda has released the first few pictures of the highly anticipated Africa Twin motorcycle. Christened CRF 1000L Africa Twin, this new off-roader is the spiritual successor of the iconic XRV750 Africa Twin motorcycle, and will go on sale in the US, in the last quarter of this calendar year.
Aesthetically, the CRF 1000L looks very similar to the mud-caked ‘True Adventure’ concept motorcycle, which Honda had unveiled at the EICMA Show in Milan, last year. The bike is inspired more by the modern CRF line-up, than its actual predecessors from whom it borrows the moniker. It also ditches the V-twin engine configuration of the older model, in favour of a 1,000cc parallel-twin unit.
Previous patent applications from Honda had revealed that the CRF 1000L Africa Twin will get split seats and seat height adjustment for the rider along with several functional features from its Dakar motorcycles like side-mounted radiators and airbox. Unlike the other soft dual purpose adventure motorcycles currently on sale, the Africa Twin is a hardcore adventure bike designed to tackle the harshest of terrains.
