Honda Motor Company (Honda Global) has announced plans for electrification of its two-wheelers. In an official announcement, Honda stated that it plans to introduce three new electric vehicle models in the area of personal use. These new models will be introduced in classes with engine sizes below 50cc and below 125cc by 2024. The graphics indicate electric scooters, although the company may also introduce electric motorcycles in the future.
The company further added that it will introduce new products in the “FUN” area as well. The company is yet to reveal any details about the “FUN” products, although they would most likely be high-performance electric two-wheelers. The graphics that were part of the official announcement show a sporty motorcycle, although we could see the applications across different segments. The timeline for the “FUN” products is not available at the moment.
The announcement was made by Honda Motor Company and it was targeted to the international markets. However, we could see the personal use vehicles in the Indian market too. Rival brands like Hero MotoCorp are preparing to enter into the electric vehicle segment while TVS Motor Company and Bajaj Auto have already launched their respective products in several states in the country.
Apart from electrification, Honda also aims to improve the fuel efficiency of gasoline engines, utilisation of biofuels, and other strategies.
