- Honda has fetched 11 million customers in Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra till now
- Nationwide sales of the brand have deteriorated since November 2018
Honda 2Wheelers India has crossed a new milestone in the western part of India. In the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa combined, the company has fetched 11 million customers since it entered into the Indian market. The three aforementioned states contribute to 15 per cent of the overall two-wheeler sales in the country which make this region an important chunk of the market. Honda entered in India in 2000 and it took the brand 14 years to garner the first 5.5 million customers in the west. The remaining 5.5 million customers were acquired in the next four years of operations.
While achieving this feat is commendable for the brand, the company has witnessed a consistent downfall in its nationwide sales for a few months now. It was in November 2018 that Honda first saw its sales dip and the decline stood at 8.8 per cent. This has only intensified over the months. The most profound drop was recorded in March 2019 when Honda reported a slump of 46.7 per cent. Notably, the dwindling sales of the brand’s highest-selling two-wheelers, the Activa and CB Shine, have been the major contributors to this deterioration in sales.
It’s worth noting that the overall Indian two-wheeler industry has been recording a major downfall in sales for a few months. This can be attributed to the increased insurance cost and the recent implementation of new safety norms which hiked the prices of the two-wheelers significantly.
