- Filed for the trademark of NX and NX500
- The NX range name was used for dual purpose ADVs back in 90s
- Likely to use CB500X’s motor
Honda has filed the trademark for the NX and NX500 names overseas. This hints at the Japanese brand aims to bring in a new middleweight ADV, but there’s a catch.
Honda already had the NX650 Dominator on sale a few decades back which was discontinued around the 90s. Fast forward to the current scenario, Honda has witnessed massive success with the Africa Twin but the same can’t be said about its CB500X. Now, Honda can possibly not use the Dominator moniker since Norton already owns the trademark rights to it. So, it only has the NX tag for the application.
With that being said, the NX500 of the yesteryear was a single-cylinder motorcycle, but the next one will benefit from the CB500X’s twin-cylinder motor if the model makes it to the production line. Moreover, we can expect retro styling for the NX range overall.
Not to mention, manufacturers often file for trademarks of various for the sake if it without actually putting them to use. Or, the names are secured for future use in case any model is being resurrected/developed.
