- Honda is working on new jump control technology
- Will come with three modes
- Mode C allows extreme jumps
Honda is working on a new technology that no other brand is working on currently. The Japanese company is developing something called the ‘Jump control’ for its adventure bikes.
From the name, it is clear that this technology will provide the rider total control over the jumps that they plan to do on an adventure bike. Like traction control or wheel control, the jump control, too, will provide a range of modes that can be selected based on the rider’s preference.
According to the leaked patent pictures and details, there will be a total of three modes. Mode A prevents jumps completely, as the system automatically reduces the throttle input or applies brakes just before the jump point. Mode B, meanwhile, allows the rider to have pre-defined jumps. This means the motorcycle will modulate the throttle and the rear brake to control the distance of the jump. The last mode, Mode C, allows extreme jumps, while also modulating a few things. This mode intends to make the rear-wheel land first by applying more throttle to bring the nose of the bike up. It will automatically apply the rear brake if the bike rises too high.
This new technology is bound to provide a lot of help to the riders, especially those who are intimidated by the size of the ADVs. Honda is currently using the CRF450 Rally to develop this system and is likely to debut it in its Dakar bikes first. Depending on how the jump control works in extreme rally conditions, the brand would want to apply it on production bikes too, like the Africa Twin.
