- Honda is developing performance EV
- Will churn out performance bike 500-750cc bikes
- Electric Activa launch in 2024
Honda has been working on a range of new electric two-wheelers over the last few years. While much focus has gone into making practical and affordable EVs, the company also plans to make and sell performance electric motorcycles.
According to an interview, one of the top honchos of the company said that it is working on an electric motorcycle that will compete with 500cc-750cc motorcycles. This development suggests that the upcoming electric motorcycle will be loaded with a powerful electric motor and will likely get a bigger battery pack. Combining a powerful motor and a larger battery pack will allow the Japanese brand to create a two-wheeler that will excite a new EV segment.
Currently, there are barely any performance EVs in the market, but when major brands like Honda are showing their intent, it means there’s a big market for it. This segment could allow the brands to focus on high-profit, low-volume segments and will also be easier to track consumer behaviour and insights. Plus, this performance segment could change people’s perception of electric two-wheelers.
Honda will launch the electric version of its famous Activa in India sometime next year. This e-scooter will likely be a no-nonsense EV, allowing Honda to expand its footprint in the fast-growing EV segment. After the electric Activa launch, the Japanese brand is likely to launch more EVs in the country.
