- Four Japanese bikes form an alliance
- Will work on hydrogen-powered engines
- Toyota providing assistance
There’s big news coming from Japan. The big 4 – Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki have allied to work on hydrogen-powered technologies and engines.
This new alliance has received support from its government to form a research association called HySE (Hydrogen small mobility & engine technology). These Japanese firms believe focusing on one energy source, solar, is unwise. Electric vehicles have gained momentum worldwide, but the members of HySE think that there has to be an alternative, and hydrogen is the answer.
Each member has been given one task. Honda will research the model-based development of hydrogen-powered engines, whereas Suzuki will study the functionality, performance and reliability. On the other hand, Yamaha will work on hydrogen refueling systems and tanks. Kawasaki will also work on the refueling system and tanks and install the fuel tank and injectors. Toyota will also support this association by doing a lot of analysis and experiments and designing sizeable hydrogen-fueled car power units.
This development makes us believe we can rely on solar for green energy. EVs have their limitations, and so does hydrogen. But only time will tell if there’s a future for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
