Husqvarna motorcycles bought by KTM CEO

Pierer Industrie AG, a holding company owned by Stefan Piere the CEO of KTM, has bought the Swedish motorcycle brand Husqvarna from BMW Motorrad.

Husqvarna, which manufactures motocross, enduro and supermoto motorcycles, recently lost its spot as dirt motorcycle market leader to rivals KTM.  It is believed that BMW Motorrad had been investing heavily in this company with a view to the but after this development it seems BMW Motorrad wants to concentrate on its urban mobility and electric vehicles rather than diversify its business.

“The BMW Group is realigning its BMW Motorrad business. In the context of changing motorcycle markets, demographic trends and increasing environmental demands, BMW Motorrad will expand its product offering to exploit future growth potential,” BMW said.

KTM’s 47 per cent stake holder Bajaj Auto is likely to benefit from this as it manufactures the Duke 125 and 200 here in India and exports it to the European market. If Stefan Piere plans to merge Husqvarna’s business with KTM, then we can see some of the Husqvarna being manufactured in India and sold across the world. Currently the only Husqvarna motorcycle in sale in India is the Nuda 900R which is priced at Rs 15 lakh.
