- Husqvarna 401s India launch unlikely
- Manufactured in Chakan, Pune
- Current line up consists of 250cc models
Husqvarna is unlikely to launch the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 in India anytime soon, the company confirmed.
While the Svartpilen 401 has been spotted testing a couple of times, it is because the motorcycle, along with the Vitpilen 401, has been in production at Bajaj’s Chakan plant since 2019. Both Husqvarna 401s are based on the KTM 390 Duke with styling similar to the 250cc Svartpilen and Vitpilen available in India. However, unlike the quarter-litre models, the 401s ride on wire-spoke wheels.
The Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 are built around a trellis frame and bolted-on subframe that houses a 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine borrowed from the KTM 390 Duke. This motor produces 43bhp of power and 37Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.
All said and done, we cannot rule out the introduction of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 in the Indian market as it goes well with the brands strategy of creating a niche lifestyle product- something that is currently amiss in the 300-400cc category.
