- Penalty charges for two-wheelers parked in no-parking zones will range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,300
- Applicable on vehicles parked in a 500-metre radius from public parking lots and BEST depots in the city
- Initially implemented around dense traffic areas with sufficient alternative parking facilities
Parking your two-wheeler on the busy streets of Mumbai has now become a lot dearer. That’s because, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Traffic Police have implemented new traffic rules, according to which, vehicles parked in no-parking zones will be levied a hefty fine.
The fine for parking a two-wheeler in a no-parking zone will range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,300. However, the penalty is currently applicable only to two-wheelers parked within a 500-metre radius of the 26 authorised public parking lots and 20 designated BEST depots in the city. The penalty charges are inclusive of the towing charges besides the illegal parking fine.
While a timeline is yet to be announced, for now, the new charges have been implemented in dense traffic areas and localities which already have sufficient alternative parking facilities. The new parking rules will be gradually implemented in other parts of the city as well.
