India-bound Ducati DesertX: Details Explained

Ducati has revealed the production-spec DesertX for the global markets. While the Indian launch details are not available yet, we expect to see this motorcycle on our shores in 2022. Here we explain all the details about the India-bound Ducati DesertX.

Design

In terms of styling, the new DesertX draws styling cues from the concept motorcycle that was revealed in 2019. It features a twin-pod headlight at the front, a tall windscreen, a semi-fairing design, a 21-litre fuel tank, split-style seats, side-slung exhaust, bash plate, and tubeless-tyre compatible wire-spoke wheels. Unlike the Multistrada series, this motorcycle uses a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination that are wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. The motorcycle features a white colour along with red graphics that are visible on the fairing and on the rear panels. It boasts a seat height of 875mm and tips the weighing scale at 202kg (dry).

Features

The new DesertX packs features such as full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled five-inch TFT display as standard. The Ducati Multimedia System allows the rider to connect the phone and access functions such as music, incoming/outgoing calls, and Turn-by-Turn navigation (optional). The electronic rider aids comprise six riding modes(Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Rally, and Enduro), four power modes (Full, High, Medium, and Low), cruise control, Bosch IMU, engine brake control, traction control, wheelie control, bidirectional quickshifter, and cornering ABS.

Engine

The mechanical specifications include an 937cc, L-Twin, liquid-cooled engine that the DesertX shares with the new Monster and Multistrada V2. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor is tuned to produce 110bhp of power at 9,250rpm and 92Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Ducati claims that it has reworked the engine to make it lighter and more efficient. The gearbox is said to have different dedicated ratios with respect to those of the Multistrada V2. Buyers can also opt for the optional Termignoni exhausts, both homologated and racing. Ther racing variant is claimed to increases the power and torque by seven per cent.

Hardware

The suspension tasks on the new DesertX are performed by KYB-sourced 46mm fully-adjustable front forks with 230mm travel and KYB fully-adjustable rear monoshock with 220mm travel. The braking hardware includes twin 320mm discs with Brembo M50 monobloc radial callipers at the front and a single 265mm rotor with a Brembo double-piston floating calliper at the back.

Accessories

Ducati will offer a long list of optional accessories for the new DesertX. These include 76-litre panniers. The total capacity can be extended to 117-litre with the top-box. Another unique accessory for the DesertX is the optional rear tank with a capacity of 8-litre. The fuel transfer from the rear to the front tank is enabled when the level in the main tank falls below a certain level. It can be activated from the dashboard. Other optional extras include a rally saddle, additional LED spotlights, centre stand, and heated grips.
