Suzuki Motorcycles has unveiled its new middleweight adventure tourer, the V-Strom 800DE for the international markets. Likely to arrive in the Indian market, its launch details are not available yet. Meanwhile, here we explain everything about this new middleweight motorcycle.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Styling
The styling cues, unlike the V-Strom 1000, include a twin-pod headlight at the front along with a semi-fairing setup, beak-style front, tall windscreen, 20-litre fuel tank, and a step-up seat. The off-road persona is enhanced by wire-spoke wheels with a 21-inch unit at the front, engine sump guard, knuckle guards, and long travel suspension. Suzuki will also offer a bunch of optional accessories to enhance the touring capabilities of the V-Strom 800DE. These include panniers, top box, tank bag, taller windscreen, heated grips, aluminium skid plate, and auxiliary lights. Further, a set of crash bars are available for added protection in case of a crash. Other add-ons that deliver convenience include a centre stand, low seat height, and brake pedal height adjuster.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Colours
Suzuki has listed the new V-Strom 800DE in three colours – Champion Yellow 2, Glass Matte Mechanical Gray, and Glass Sparkle Black. All colours feature a dual-tone finish that is visible on the fairing, fuel tank, rear panel, and front fender.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Features
The feature list is premium and the V-Strom 800DE comes with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) with Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), bidirectional quickshifter, Ride-by-Wire throttle, traction control with Gravel mode, low RPM assist, and switchable ABS. The cockpit includes a five-inch colour TFT LCD multifunction instrument panel while the illumination tasks are handled by LED lighting.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Engine
The new V-Strom 800DE is powered by a Euro5-compliant 776cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled DOHC engine with a 270-degree crankshaft design that is aimed to deliver plenty of torque across the rev range and an engine note similar to that of a V-twin. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox and is claimed to deliver a fuel economy of 22.7kmpl. With a 20-litre fuel tank, the V-Strom 800DE should return a range of approximately 450km between fuel stops.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Hardware
The suspension tasks are handled by Showa-sourced upside-down front forks and a rear mono-shock. The front forks are adjustable for spring preload and compression/rebound damping. The rear mono-shock, on the other hand, is adjustable for preload only. Both carry a travel rating of 220mm. The adventure-tourer rides on wire-spoke wheels that, surprisingly, use tube-type tyres. In comparison, the V-Strom 650 used tubeless-tyre compatible spoke wheels. Then, the wheels feature a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear diameter and come shod in Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour adventure tyres. Lastly, the braking setup comprises twin rotors at the front and a single disc at the back.
