- Expected to be launched in H2 2023
- Unofficial bookings open in India
India Yamaha Motor recently showcased its range of upcoming premium motorcycles to its dealer partners in India. While the list included the MT-03, Yamaha R3, YZF-R7, MT-07, and MT-09, we are particularly interested in the Yamaha MT-07. Although, we expect the naked street fighter to be launched in India in the second half of 2023, here’s everything you should know about the MT-07.
Yamaha MT-07: Design and styling
Typical of any modern street fighter from Yamaha, the MT-07 too features an enticingly sporty styling. The highlights include a chiselled fuel tank and a sharp-looking projector headlamp that offers a hyper-naked character to the motorcycle. The motorcycle gets a raked-up tail section and a wide handlebar, which should offer a commanding riding position.
Yamaha MT-07: Features
The 2023 Yamaha MT-07 comes fairly equipped with features to entice its customers. The list includes full-LED lighting, a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and an optional Quick Shift System. The safety net comprises of dual-channel ABS system and an assist and a slipper clutch as standard.
Yamaha MT-07: Engine specifications
The 2023 Yamaha MT-07 will draw power from a 689cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin CP2 engine, which also propels the Yamaha R7 and the Tenere 700. Similar to most twin-cylinder engines these days, the CP2 motor features a 270-degree crankshaft, which gives it an uneven firing order. The engine is capable of producing 72.4bhp at 8,750rpm and a peak torque of 67Nm at 6,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
Yamaha MT-07: Suspension, brakes and wheels
The MT-07 is known for its engaging handling, which is bestowed by the diamond-type chassis and the sporty suspension setup, which includes telescopic forks up front and a link-type mono-shock at the back. The braking duties will be performed by twin 298mm rotors at the front with radially-mounted callipers and a single 245mm disc at the rear. The motorcycle will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, wrapped with Michelin Road 5 rubber.
Yamaha MT-07: Competition, price and launch details
Once launched in India, the Yamaha MT-07 will compete against the likes of the Honda CB650R, Triumph Trident 660, and the Kawasaki Z650. Now, some Yamaha dealers have started taking unofficial bookings for the MT-07, so we can expect it to be launched in India by mid-2023. As for its pricing, we expect it to cost around Rs. 7 lakh (ex-showroom).
