UM Motorcycles has commenced export of India-made motorcycles to Nepal. The range comprises of the Commando and the Sports S, and starts at NPR 3.75 lakh (Rs 2.34 lakh).
While UM Motorcycles has a presence in Nepal for some time now, the company has now started sourcing the Commando and Sports S from India instead of Bangladesh. Both the models sold in Nepal are identical to the India-spec motorcycles. While the Commando has been styled to look like a retro American cruiser, the Sports S has the undertones of a sporty cruiser. Both are powered by a 280cc fuel-injected single-cylinder engine. The engine delivers 24.8bhp and a peak torque of 23Nm through a six-speed gearbox.
The UM motorcycles exported to Nepal are manufactured at Lohia Auto’s production facility in Kashipur, Uttrakhand. The company has tied up with IME Group to set up the distribution and service network in Nepal. The company is further looking at expansion in the Asia-Pacific, including 10 ASEAN countries.
