In a bid to provide relief to the common man, the government of India has reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre, respectively. In turn, this will reflect a cut down of Rs 9.5 per litre on the petrol price and Rs 7 per litre for diesel.
While this update brings a fresh breeze of relief, the current price of petrol still lies in the vicinity of Rs 105 per litre and Rs 96 per litre for diesel. So, the amount is still at a considerable high. Not to mention, these are the same prices that we witnessed in March.
The new fuel prices come off more as a stop-gap arrangement than a long term/permanent solution.
