- eFTR Hooligan 1.2 breaks cover
- Comes with a pedal-assisted range of 120km
- Will not be launched in India
Indian Motorcycles has taken the wraps off the eFTR Hooligan and priced it at USD 4,000 (approx. Rs 3 lakh). The e-bike is built in collaboration with Super 73, a California-based electric bicycle manufacturer.
Now, the eFTR Hooligan is not completely electric and features pedals for versatility. With its removable, 960 kWh battery, the e-bike offers a claimed 120km in pedal-assist mode. However, with only the throttle pinned, the eFTR Hooligan can supposedly be ridden up to 64km.
That said, it also comes with three modes that will help conserve some range whenever necessary. In Class 1 Mode, the Indian eFTR Hooligan restricts speed to 32kmph with pedal assist. In Class 2 Mode, the throttle is enabled but the speed continues to be limited to 32kmph. Meanwhile, the e-bike offers a max speed of 45kmph in Class 3 Mode. That’s not all, Indian is also offering an Off-Road mode that turns up the power to 2000 watts, offering speeds over 45kmph.
The Indian eFTR Hooligan 1.2 is based on the Super 73 S2, although with some added elements to set it apart. So, it gets inverted front forks, an FTR-like headlamp and a flyscreen. Moreover, it also takes inspiration from the Roland Sands Design version and sports an extended bench seat, and mid-mounted battery pack to lower its CG. Indian has also preferred to show off the thick semi-knobby tyres by ditching the front and rear fenders.
Indian is not the only major motorcycle manufacturer to recently enter the e-bike race. Harley also has their Serial 1 bikes, Yamaha’s YDX Torc-e MTB and the most recent Ducati Futa road e-bike. And it is safe to say, we can expect many more e-bikes to be introduced in the coming year. However only time will tell when these will be offered in the Indian market.
