- OEMs get 2 weeks to create a EV roadmap
- Manufacturers had asked for 6 months
- New GST committee created to promote EVs
Niti Aayog, the think-tank organization of the government has given all the two-wheeler manufacturers a deadline of two weeks to come up with an electric-vehicle roadmap. In fact, three-wheeler as well as four-wheeler manufacturers have been given the same deadline.
The government is in the process of drafting a new EV policy where two-wheelers below 150cc displacement needs to be electric by 2025. This news didn’t go well with majority of the two-wheeler manufacturers who raised concerns around it. But in a recent meeting with between the OEMs and Niti-Aayog, the vision was communicated and the OEMs have to been asked to create a roadmap. However, the automakers have asked for six-months to develop some plans, but unfortunately, the request was denied.
The EV industry was expecting a respite from the GST committee on the new tax rates. However, there was no change in the overall tax structure. But to support the EV plan, the GST body has created a separate committee.
