- Inugural FIM MiniGP World Series India starts from 23 July
- All participants are 10-14-year-old riders
- Total 15 racers selected after multiple trials
India’s first-ever FIM MiniGP World Series is scheduled to commence today, 23 July, 2022. This is a racing series for 10-14-year old riders who intend to ultimately make it to MotoGP. It started last year with 10 different countries being a part of it and India has been added to the list this year.
The first round will comprise two races which will be held between 23-24 July at the Meco Kartopia track in Bengaluru. A total of 14 riders have been selected for the same after a couple of trial rounds earlier this month. And these 14 racers are Darshit Chetan Chavan (10 years), Sahil Vaibhav Shelukar (11) and Yash Shinde (12), all from Pune; Rehbar Baktoo (11) from New Delhi; Shreyas Hareesh (11), Dev Agastya (11), Nithila Das (12), Aleena Mansur Sheikh (11) and Anastya Pol (12), all from Bengaluru; Nandanan Mahendran (11), KR Kabilesh (12), Rakshith S Dave (13) and Rakshitha S Dave (13), all from Chennai; Jinendra Kiran Sangave (13), from Kolhapur; and Muhammed Zain Correya (13), from Kochi.
Most of these participants have already been taking part in different National Championship races with some of them having finished on podium as well. The MiniGP races will be held at FIM-approved karting tracks in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. A total of 5 rounds will be held which will go on till September. Interestingly, the top riders with the most points overall will compete in the World Finals to be held in Valencia, Spain during the final round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship in November.
All the riders will be competing astride the Ohvale GP-0 160 mini bikes that are manufactured in Italy with Pirelli being the only official tyre supplier, not just for India but also globally. At present, 15 countries are a part of the FIM MiniGP World Series which essentially provides a platform to young aspirants who want to get into the pinnacle of road racing, MotoGP.
