Triumph was recently in the news for the wrong reasons, when it was revealed that the British manufacturer has been selling Brazilian-spec detuned motorcycles in India, while falsely showing higher power figures. Now, reports suggest that Triumph has offered to compensate the owners of its middleweight naked motorcycle, the Street Triple.
A new thread in popular motorcycling forum, xBhp, states that Triumph is remunerating the owners of Street Triple by offering them three options –
1. Sell the Street Triple back to Triumph and get their money back.
2. Get accessories worth Rs 1.5 lakh by paying Rs 10,000. The accessories package will include an Arrow exhaust system, ECU remaps, airbox ducts and a vaccum pipe, which should help get the power up to 105bhp.
3. Get their power figure up to 105bhp, as per European-spec motorcycles.
The Street Triple is priced at Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which, considering the company’s previously claimed power figures, ranks very high on the value for money scale. It was a very lucrative option and completely eclipsed its competition, the Kawasaki Z800. However with this new revelation, it seems that the Z800 is an equally good proposition.
The thread says that for the last two options, the owners will have to sign an indemnity bond, as the modifications aren’t certified by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). For the second alternative, the exhaust and the remaps themselves cost around Rs 60,000 and seems like a very lucrative option. However, for those customers who have lost trust in the brand, the first option is always available.
