- Can be worn under any motorcycle jacket
- Features a special algorithm for track and road use
- Designed to provide safety at common injury points like the neck, spine collarbone, thorax and abdomen
Ixon, a French motorcycle gear brand has introduced an airbag system that can be worn under any motorcycle jacket. The airbag vest comes with an ‘In&box’ electrical system that keeps a tab on the rider’s movements at a 1000th of a second and processes the data through a set of algorithms to detect a fall.
The ‘In&box’ electrical unit is designed to fit into a CE-approved back protector while the inflation canister operates completely wirelessly. The system has a battery life of 20 hours. The airbag vest weighs 1.3 kg, features stretchable fabric for optimum adjustment and breathable 3D mesh for ventilation.
The back protector holds 12 litres of compressed air which, upon detection of a fall, is capable of inflating the airbag vest in less than 55 milliseconds. The vest has been designed to provide safety at common injury points like the neck, spine, collarbones, thorax and abdomen.
The product has been extensively developed over a period of three years by MotoGP, endurance and French superbike riders. The company is also offering the airbag vest with a special algorithm that can be used on track day. The setting can be switched between track and road as required.
Ixon is retailing the vest at 400 euros, while the In&box devices can also be rented as per requirement. The system continuously monitors and collects data to improve and offer customised protection.
