Jawa has brought the direct successor of Jawa 650 Dakar motorcycle, the 660 Sportard, to the United Kingdom. It is available for sale at a price of £6,745 (approximately Rs 6.63lakh).
According to the CZECH manufacturer, Sportard, as the name suggests, has been built to be a sports motard. The bike comes with a tubular weldment frame that provides sufficient strength at high speeds and on rough terrains. The rear swingarm has been custom made according to Jawa documentation. This swingarm is made from aluminium alloy which is pre designed for a central shock absorber unit. The rear shock absorber Bitubo unit gets individual setting of damping in rebound and spring preload.
The best feature that this bike gets is the three projector headlamps. The front forks are Paioli which were introduced on the previous 650cc variants. The bike gets 305mm dual disc brakes with floating two piston calipers in the front while the rear brakes are radial four pistons with the discs in 220mm of diameter.
The 660 Sportard is powered by an engine built by an Italian firm, Minarelli, which is a part of the Yamaha Motor Group. This single-cylinder four-stroke four-valve liquid-cooled Minarelli motor with SOHC valvetrain produces 49bhp of power. This mill is equipped with an electronic injection system (EFI).
Jawa is only known in India for the Yezdi and the Roadking. Ideal Jawa India Ltd was a motorcycle company based in Mysore. It was started in 1960 under the brand name Jawa and then started selling motorcycles under the brand name of Yezdi from 1968. Now that we don’t have the company or distributors in our country at all, we don’t expect the 660 Sportard to be seen on Indian roads. However, with the large amount of fans and enthusiasts in India, the motorcycle brand will be surely welcomed.
