Classic Legends, a subsidiary of Mahindra, has reincarnated the Jawa brand in India. Among the three bikes it has launched under the iconic brand, the one focused on the young riders is the Jawa Forty Two. Unlike the classic Jawa or the bobber Perak, the Forty Two bears classic and modern bits both. Let’s have closer look at the bike in the photo gallery.
The Jawa Forty Two has been introduced in six trendy colours including red, dark blue, light blue, matte blue, green and light green.
It looks similar to the classic Jawa but the lesser use of chrome makes it look a bit aggressive. It gets blacked out handlebar, bar-end mirrors and single-pod offset instrument cluster.
The single pod instrument cluster adds a nice design element. It shows just the basic information such as the speed, fuel level and odometer along with tell-tale lights.
Maintaining the classic theme, the Forty Two gets conventional bulbs in the headlamp. The unit consists of a tiny chrome-finished dial on top as a design touch.
The fuel tank of the Forty Two has the capacity of 14-litres and an oval shaped design. There’s a long and flat single-seat unit which should be comfortable for long rides.
Holding the bike is a double cradle chassis. It is suspended on chunky telescopic forks on the front while the front wheel is an 18-inch unit.
At the rear, the 17-inch spoke wheel is suspended on twin hydraulic shock absorbers. Rear drum brake and front disc brake take care of anchoring while single channel ABS is standard.
The powerplant of the Jawa Forty Two is a 293cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC unit that generates 27bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle has been priced at Rs 1.55 lakhs (ex-showroom). At this price point, it competes against the KTM Duke 200, Bajaj Dominar 400, Mahindra Mojo UT300, Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and Classic 350.
