- Likely to be a base for three upcoming bikes.
- Produces 27bhp and 28Nm of torque and is BS-VI compliant.
- Jawa motorcycle likely to arrive by end of this year.
Mahindra-owned Classic Legends has revealed the engine that will power the upcoming Jawa bikes in India.
The unit is a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 293cc engine that produces 27bhp and 28Nm of torque. It will be mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive. While the unit seems to be based on the Mojo’s 295cc motor, the manufacturer says that the engine has been built from scratch and promises a generous mid-range and flat torque curve with an exhaust note reminiscent of the early 2-stroke Jawas. Keeping in mind the remote future, the engine is also BS-VI compliant.
Classic Legends have also managed to replicate the engine design on the early bikes. We can expect the motorcycle which is to be powered by this engine to be in the same retro appeal. Jawa is expected to launch three motorcycles based on this engine platform with the first one arriving by the end of this year.
