Kawasaki in a manner of harking back to the old times has filed a new application for a trademark of the name Z900RS. Here we have a mock-up of what the bike may look like and also a few details on the trademark application.
The company is no mood to let the memory of the Z1 die out so hence this application. The motorcycle will be a retro-styled roadster featuring modern powertrain and technology. It uses the original Z900 name which was one of the bike names used to sell the classic 1972 Z1. The Z1 was sold as the Z900, the 900 S4 and KZ900 around the world and became the Z1000 or the KZ1000 finally in 1977. According to sources, the RS in the name refers to the styling of the bike ‘Retro Style’, a typical Japanese type of model branding.
Being a modern but retro motorcycle it will likely come with an exposed, air-cooled inline-four engine, steel chassis, minimal bodywork and standard upright riding position.
The bike directly goes up against Honda’s CB1100. It is Honda’s take on a classic retro-styled naked motorcycle. However, the Honda is bound to get more modern as seen from carbon-fibre bits and Ohlins suspension on the concept at the 2016 Osaka Motorcycle Show in Japan. Read more about that here.
