- Likely to have 125cc equivalent performance
- Leaked documents reveal motor details
- To be launched in the USA very soon
A leaked type-approval document has revealed new details on the upcoming Kawasaki electric motorcycles. The Japanese brand is set to debut the Ninja e-1 and the Z e-1 very soon and here are the latest details on the two bikes.
Kawasaki will likely bring both these EVs to the American and Australian markets very soon. So far, these have been approved for sale overseas only. Kawasaki will power both bikes with a 9kW (continuous power) motor and link it to a pair of battery packs that will have a combined output of 3kWh. Moreover, these will be removable and weigh around 24kg combined. Overall, the Ninja e-1 and the Z e-1 will tip the scale at 139kg and 135kg respectively.
The bodywork for both the Kawasaki EVs would resemble their respective petrol counterparts. So, the Ninja e-1 gets a sharp front end housing the split LED headlight topped by a transparent windscreen. On the other hand, the Z e-1 looks a little smaller but similar to the donor bike, the Z400. The two get split seats, alloy wheels, telescopic front forks and a monoshock. The braking department for both Japanese bikes will comprise a front and rear disc brake.
In one of the previously leaked images, we learnt that Kawasaki could offer a TFT screen that will house two separate battery level readouts, an e-boost option, which could be used to avail a surge of power for a quick overtake. Apart from that, Kawasaki could also be working on a slightly larger capacity hybrid motorcycle, similar to the Ninja 650. It would use a 48-volt generator that charges post the petrol motor is activated.
Currently, Kawasaki India hasn’t expressed any interest in bringing any of its EVs here. However, if you are looking for one, then there are a handful of other options like the Ultraviolette F77, Tork Kratos, Matter Aera (soon to go on sale), and a few more.
