- Z EV was teased last year
- Could get a removable battery
- Maximum output to be limited to 11kW
Electric mobility has been expanding not just in India but in the international market as well. Kawasaki had recently displayed its probable EV offerings for the international market in Europe. Of the two models showcased, one is the Z EV and the other is the Ninja electric motorcycle.
Both the Z and Ninja EV prototypes are equipped with LED illumination, and their proportions seem equivalent to petrol motorcycles. Kawasaki has also equipped the two with disc brakes at both ends, while the suspension hardware comprises telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear. On the right side, near the rider’s footpeg, is a handle-like structure indicating a removable battery pack.
Kawasaki is yet to confirm the specifications, but the newly leaked details reveal that the bikes would feature a 3kWh battery unit and get about 7kW of continuous power. It’s also possible that the Japanese bikemaker will offer two separate battery packs, as the TFT console images show two separate bars of battery level. An e-boost feature also on the screen, and as the name suggests, it could offer a surge of power for a small period.
There’s another model that Kawasaki has teased, and it seems to be a larger offering, possibly a hybrid motorcycle. It might be based on the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and will get a 48-volt generator system that charges after the activation of the internal combustion engine. It could use an automatic clutch that would work in tandem with the electric motor to automatically shift the gears.
The overall plan is currently in its early stages, but we expect an official announcement from Kawasaki this year. It could possibly launch the EV first, followed by the hybrid.
