- Keeway to launch new SR 250 at Auto Expo
- To feature the same design as the existing SR 125
The modern-classic motorcycle segment of India has become quite crowded and competitive over the last few years. The ever-rising demand for this type of bike inspired a lot of brands to try grabbing a piece of this lucrative pie. While the buyers already have a lot of options to choose from in this space, the Hungarian brand Keeway is all set to introduce a new contender at the 2023 Auto Expo.
As per our sources, Keeway will be officially launching the new SR 250 in India at the biennial auto show that is scheduled to commence on 11 January. The SR 250 will boast a modern-classic design, nearly identical to the SR 125 that is already sold in India. The latter has an interesting old-school scrambler-ish stance with elements like spoke wheels, block-pattern tyres, chopped fenders, front fork gaiters, an off-set round console, and a ribbed-patter seat.
While the exact engine specifications of the motorcycle are yet to be revealed, we know that it will be powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled mill. Typical of long-stroke, neo-retro offerings, expect this unit to be torque-rich in the low and mid-range and come mated to a five-speed gearbox. Meanwhile, the hardware package is likely to be basic with a single downtube chassis, telescopic forks, dual springs, and a single disc at both ends.
Once launched the Keeway SR 250 will lock horns with the likes of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, TVS Ronin, and the Kawasaki W175. Notably, Keeway’s existing India portfolio has as many as seven products that are sold through the same dealerships as Benelli by Adishwar Auto Ride India group.
