Know which type of bike tyre suits your riding? (Sponsored)

The two-wheeler tyre market in India has grown a lot in recent years. The bike market has also seen a radical overhaul. Gone are the times of skinny Hondas and meaty Pulsars on the streets. Today, we have a new bike or scooter launching every other day, and with every new model comes a new tyre. There is no one-size-fits-all scenario anymore.

In this post we talk about the types of bikes and the tyres that go with them.

Standard Street Bikes (110-150cc)

These are the bikes that we see in everyday use. Built for mobility and mileage, street bike tyres find use in household motorcycles, two-wheeler taxis, and delivery fleets. Street bike tyres are built for a balance between price and performance, made from tougher rubber that offers better mileage. Commuter / street bike tyres generally have higher sidewalls for easy bump absorption on road and stability on low width tyre. Moreover, these bike tyres are low maintenance and need little to no care during their life time, apart from proper Psi.

Street Sport Bikes (150-200cc)

These bike tyres are built for motorcycles in the Rs. 1 lakh+ category. These motorcycles are performance oriented and need tyres that have good grip. Made from softer rubber and with slightly lower sidewalls, these tyres offer better cornering performance. The higher riding speed of these motorcycles also warrants better grip on both wet and dry surfaces, here the tread quality plays an important role. Bike tyre brands like Apollo offer special tread patterns for superior control on Indian roads.

Sports Bikes (250-400 cc)

Exterior

Built for maximum performance, these bikes need high-performance tyres to stay connected to track and road. Sports bike tyres are made from softer rubber compounds that offer highest amount of grip and high speed cornering stability. The powerful motors in sports bikes also warrant better braking efficiency and sports bike tyres improve braking by providing a wider footprint on the road. Usually built on low aspect ratio, tyres quickly translate handling and load transfer to vehicle motion. Built on radial technology, zero degree steel winding in tyre provides the tyre with a stable profile even at high speed condition and ensures performance standard all throughout the life.

Adventure touring Bikes

Some bikes are built for mobility on and off the road. These bikes need tyres that are kind of blocky in nature. The tread design is purpose-built for traction on gravel trails and dirt roads. With a 65-35 on-road and off-road tyre tread, an adventure tyre enables dual-sports performance on multiple vehicles. The comfort offered by all-terrain bike tyres on normal roads is also reasonably good. You will usually find these tyres on bikes billed as off-road or adventure.

Motocross Bikes

Off-road or dirt bikes are generally used by professionals or enthusiast riders. Built from the hardest of rubber tyre compounds, off-road bike tyres are meant for gravel, dirt and rocky surfaces. While these tyres will roll on tarmac but do not expect much grip or riding comfort. Moreover, when used on roads these off-road bike tyres wear out quickly as their tread is not optimised for street use.

Now that you know about the types of bikes and tyres that are available in the Indian market, pick and choose one for your machine from a tyre shop near you. Apollo Tyre Dealers offer some of the best options if you are upgrading bike tyres and looking for a performance boost for your bike.
