KTM’s upcoming adventure-touring version of the 1290 Super Duke was once again spotted testing. Expected to be christened 1290 Super Duke GT, the heavily camouflaged test mule was photographed in Spain, near the Austrian manufacturer’s testing facility.
Aesthetically, the front of the 1290 Super Duke GT will get a redesigned fairing with a tall windshield to improve wind deflection. It will also get a wider set of handlebars and different seating to afford a more comfortable riding position. The 1290 Super Duke GT will share a major chunk of its components, including the brakes, suspension, rear body panels and wheels with the naked 1290 Super Duke.
The 1290Super Duke GT will be built around the same chrome-molybdenum tubular steel frame and will also borrow the 1,301cc V-twin engine from its naked sibling. This engine delivers 180bhp and 143Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox.
We can also expect it to feature the comprehensive electronics package from the 1290 Super Duke R which includes ride by wire, traction control and ABS. While the bike will also be available with a wheelie control system, it seems like the test rider had it turned off when the spy shots were captured. The 1290 Super Duke GT will rival other adventure-touring motorcycles like the Triumph Tiger Explorer, Aprilia Caponord 1200 and the BMW S1000XR.
