- Spotted testing overseas
- Features a new fascia and revised bodywork
- India launch unlikely
KTM is likely to expand its SMT range further as a new test bike has been spotted and it seems to be the 1390 SMT. The spy shots have revealed a new engine being tested on this bike and it is likely to be borrowed from the 1390 Duke.
While one would expect similarities between the 1390 and the 890 SMT, KTM is likely to borrow bits from the 1290 Super Adventure range for the upcoming SMT. This could include the WP semi-active suspension for a higher spec 1390 SMT and the standard model with a manually adjustable one. The upcoming bike’s fascia will be borrowed from its streetfighter sibling, that is the 1390 Duke. It comprises a set of vertically stacked LED lights topped by a transparent visor.
The overall bodywork for the KTM 1390 SMT too is filled with cuts and creases as the bike gets large side panels, a tall handlebar setup, and a single-piece setup. But thanks to the road-biased setup, the SMT doesn’t seem as intimidating in the images as its off-road sibling. The overall proportions too appear different since it runs on smaller wheels.
Powering the upcoming KTM 1390 SMT will be a 1,350cc twin-cylinder engine with a six-speed gearbox. For reference, the KTM 1390 Duke makes 190bhp. You can also expect the 1390 SMT to get loads of electronics including full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display, three ride modes (Rain, Street, and Sport), an optional Track mode, cornering traction control, and a lean-sensitive ABS with supermoto mode.
KTM will launch the 1390 SMT in the international markets only and its debut here is unlikely. Currently, the most powerful offering from KTM is its 390 series.
