- Spotted testing a while back
- Likely to pack an 899cc twin-cylinder motor
- Official launch date announced by KTM
Earlier this month, the KTM 890 SMT was spotted testing overseas. And now, the Austrian brand has officially announced its new offering’s launch date. The 890 SMT is slated to debut on 24 April 2023. Here’s what we know about it.
On the design front, the KTM 890 SMT has an ADV motorcycle's proportions and build. It features a tall stance with a wide handlebar and a butch front end housing the LED headlight with a transparent visor, and wide side fairing. It’s likely to be powered by an 899cc parallel-twin motor dishing out 103hp. It’s the same mill that the 890 Duke draws power from. It’s mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Moreover, the 890 SMT indicates its road-biased use with comparatively smaller alloys and road tyres. It even misses the wide fuel tank that the 890 Adventure features. Apart from the said bits, the 890 SMT gets an upswept exhaust and long travel suspension which should offer better ground clearance. The smaller alloys should translate to better and quicker side-to-side transitions and slightly spirited handling.
Even though the KTM 890 SMT is set to debut very soon, the Austrian brand will likely keep it limited to the foreign market only. And as of now, we only have the 390 series from KTM as its largest offering in India.
