- KTM to acquire over 50.1 per cent stake in MV Agusta
- Plans to manufacture 12,000 bikes per annum
- MV Agusta to continue as a luxury marquee
KTM is planning on acquiring a controlling stake in MV Agusta, the iconic Italian motorcycle marquee. The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer already owns 25.1 per cent of MV Agusta shares, which it acquired late last year.
According to the latest reports from Italy, KTM plans to increase its shareholding in MV Agusta by 2024. In the broader scheme of things, Pierer Mobility Group (PMG), the parent company of KTM, intends to invest heavily in MV Agusta’s factory in Varese, Italy.
According to Hubert Trunkenpolz, a member of PMG’s executive management board, KTM aims to enhance the production capabilities of MV Agusta and streamline operations without any job cuts. The MV Agusta factory has a capacity of manufacturing 12,000 bikes every year. However, the Italian bike maker only manufactured 1,000 units last year. After taking control of the MV Agusta brand, KTM plans to utilise maximum capacity by producing 12,000 bikes from the Varese factory.
Mr Trunkenpolz also announced that MV Agusta will continue to operate as a luxury motorcycle marquee, and there won’t be any cannibalization or product overlap between the two brands whatsoever.
