- GasGas reveals new SM 700 and ES 700
- Based on KTM’s 690 platform
- Won’t come to India anytime soon
The Spanish two-wheeler brand GasGas, which is owned by KTM, has taken the wraps off its first-ever street-legal motorcycles. Called the SM 700 and ES 700, these are middle-weight single-cylinder offerings with the former being a supermoto and the latter boasting dual-purpose characteristics.
The GasGas SM 700 and ES 700 are based on the same platform as the KTM’s 690 models and Husqvarna’s 701 twins. Powering the bikes is a 692.7cc, liquid-cooled mill that churns out 73.7bhp of power at 8,000rpm which can be dialled down for the bikes to be suitable for A2 license holders in the international markets. As for their weight (without fuel), the SM 700 and ES 700 tip the scales at 148.5kg and 147.5kg, respectively.
The road-biased SM rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the ES trim comes equipped with spoke wheels which is in line with its enduro purpose. The electronic suite includes lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, an up-down quick shifter, and two riding modes. As for the aesthetics, both bikes sport a vibrant red livery with bold ‘GasGas’ branding running across the fuel tank and extensions.
Both bikes will start reaching dealerships in European markets in the coming weeks. As for their India entry, that's not slated for anytime soon.
