- GasGas to launch street-legal models
- Had only competition bikes until now
- To be based on KTM’s 690 platform
KTM-owned Spanish brand, GasGas, will be introducing its first street-legal motorcycles soon, as revealed by an online report. At present, GasGas’ portfolio comprises only competition bikes for categories like trials, dirt, Moto3, and the Dakar Rally. It’s worth noting that Sam Sunderland, who won the 2022 Dakar Rally, represents the GasGas brand in the competition.
As per the vehicle identification number (VIN) decoder information submitted by KTM to the US, the first two production GasGas offerings will be called the ES 700 and the SM 700. The suffix ‘700’ obviously denotes its displacement. It’s also an indication that these bikes will be based on KTM’s 690 platform, which is also utilized by Husqvarna 701 Enduro and 701 Supermoto.
The platform on which GasGas offerings will be based comprises a 693cc single-cylinder engine that produces 73bhp and 70Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed transmission. This unit clings onto a steel trellis frame that is suspended by a WP suspension setup. Notably, the suspension and braking hardware along with wheels are different for the Enduro and Supermoto models of KTM and Husqvarna both.
The specifications of the GasGas motorcycles will be nearly identical to the KTM and Husqvarna offerings. The prices of both models have already been received by two GasGas dealers in Spain and an official announcement should take place soon.
