- Official launch is scheduled for 28 September
- Will be powered by a 1300cc boxer twin motor
- Gets a much sleeker design than the current 1250cc GS
The first undisguised images of the production-ready BMW R 1300 GS have surfaced on the web. These pictures have been leaked from a type approval document that the Bavarian bikemaker filed in Australia.
Compared to the previous spy shots, the new images of the BMW R 1300 GS reveal the bike's much cleaner and sleeker design. It looks notably less bulky compared to the current 1250 GS lineup. The upcoming R 1300 GS seems to have ditched the asymmetrical headlight and could adopt a more linear LED unit. A transparent visor tops it and the beak also appears to be a little sharper. BMW Motorrad will equip the upcoming GS with a radar-based cruise control system.
The R 1300 GS will draw power from a 1300cc boxer twin engine with an output rated at 143bhp and 143Nm. It’ll be linked to a six-speed gearbox and will likely benefit from an optional quickshifter. BMW has also carried over the shaft drive for its upcoming ADV. On the other hand, the suspension hardware will comprise USD front forks, a front Telelever, and a rear Paralever setup. Then, the braking system will consist of a dual front and a single rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Apart from LED illumination and ABS, the list of features on the R 1300 GS could include collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, a fully digital console with GPS, ride modes, traction control, and more. The bike seen here is equipped with alloys but it won’t be a surprise if BMW offers spoke wheels as well for better off-roading prowess.
The unveiling date for the BMW R 1300 GS is set as 28 September. It’ll debut in Berlin first and later on in other markets, including India. Once launched, the BMW R 1300 GS will rival other ADVs like the Ducati Multistrada V4, Harley-Davidson Pan America, and others.
