- Two new platforms under development
- New electric scooter platform called EL as of now
- Electric motorcycle platform dubbed Zenith
Ather Electric is working on not one but two new platforms for its future EVs. One of them is called EL and the other is Zenith. The EL platform will cater to the brand’s electric scooters whereas the Zenith platform will hold Ather’s first ever and more electric motorcycles.
The EL platform is currently in its advanced stage of development and will be used to cater for a more cost-effective and versatile platform of electric scooters. While Ather aims to introduce a powertrain, chassis, and electronics with the EL base, it will also leverage the current 450 platform. This will include elements of the battery and Atherstack as well. Not to mention, we also came across a few design patent images of a potential maxi-scooter from Ather a few months ago. So, it won’t be a surprise if we see another maxi-scooter next.
On the other hand, the Zenith platform will be the home to its electric motorcycles. Ather is targeting the 125cc to 300cc market. A couple of years ago, during a press conference, Ather CEO, Tarun Mehta mentioned the brand’s interest in electric motorcycles but that was limited up to 200cc. Now, with the reports suggesting an even higher competition (up to 300cc), it would be quite interesting to see where and how Ather’s future electric motorcycle lineup would span.
Lastly, Ather is also working on designing a new battery platform with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP). It is expected to be compatible with some of the current Ather models. Further, the new LFP platform is also being aimed at leveraging the price gap between it and nickel-based chemistries.
