- Uses carbon-fibre bodywork and other lightweight components
- Limited to just 500 units
- Pre-orders in European market to start on 8 April
KTM has introduced a premium variant of its flagship naked roadster, the 1290 Super Duke R. Christened as the 1290 Super Duke RR, the new model will be available in limited numbers and KTM will only produce 500 units of the motorcycle. The pre-bookings for the new KTM 1290 Super Duke RR in the European market will start from 8 April, 2021.
The RR model retains the 1,301cc, twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 177.5bhp of maximum power and 140Nm of peak torque. The limited edition, however, packs several weight saving measures that helps it achieve a better power-to-weight ratio. At 180kg, the RR model is nine kilogram lighter than the standard 1290 Super Duke R.
The company has achieved this though the use of carbon-fibre bodywork, lightweight lithium-ion battery, forged wheels, and a carbon-fibre sub-frame with a redesigned single seat. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Power Cup2 tires. Other changes include redesigned LED taillights incorporated into new LED turn signals and KTM’s adaptive brake light as standard.
The components, too, are higher-spec than the standard model. Thus, the suspension setup on the 1290 Super Duke RR includes fully-adjustable WP APEX PRO 7548 Close Cartridge front forks and APEX PRO 7746 rear shock. The motorcycle also benefits from an adjustable WP APEX PRO 7117 steering damper.
An Akrapovič 'slip-on line' exhaust system comes as standard while a full system Akrapovič kit 'evolution line' is available as an optional extra. Electronic rider aids include rear-wheel slip, throttle response, Launch Control, and Motor Slip Regulation.
