Lotus has commenced the despatch of the super exclusive C-01 superbike. Brainchild of the former Bugatti designer Daniel Simon, the C-01 was first revealed in January, this year, as a concept motorcycle, and now just nine months down the line, the motorcycle is ready in its production form.
Pictures of the motorcycle show that the radical design of the concept has made it to the production version of the C-01. Another one of the well-kept secrets is that Lotus started the production of the C-01 two months ago, and that the 100 examples of the limited edition run have already been built.
The C-01 is built around a trellis frame and is powered by a 1,195cc water-cooled V-twin engine, rated at 175bhp. It is made largely out of carbon fibre, titanium and aerospace-grade steel, some things that Lotus also uses in its the Formula One cars.
Lotus says that the customisation service on the C-01 is ‘limited only by the imagination of the client’. It took Lotus two years to develop the motorcycle from scratch, and one look at the C-01 is enough to know that it is worth every penny of the EUR 1,00,000 (Rs 77.38 lakh) price tag it demands. For the British manufacturer’s first attempt on something with two wheels, the C-01 is definitely a sight to behold, and we cannot wait to see what the C-02 will look like.
