Mahindra Centuro has received over 10,000 bookings in 18 days within 3 weeks of its launch in India. The motorcycle was launched this month at an introductory price of Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and has been completely developed in house at their R&D center in Pune. However, the first 10,000 motorcycles were sold at Rs 44,000 which is Rs 1000 less than its introductory price.
The Centuro is loaded with features like anti-theft alarm with engine immobiliser, an 96-bit encrypted remote flip key, find me lamps and guide lamps for greater visibility. The Mahindra Centuro also offers an advanced digital dashboard with a distance–to-empty (DTE) indicator, service reminder and economy mode indicator. The company claims to have a fuel efficiency of 85.4 kmpl (ARAI).
We are not surprised by these booking figures as the motorcycle was offered at a great price to Indian consumers who tend to respond very quickly and positively to a value for money product. However, it is likely that Mahindra is absorbing some of the production cost of Centuro in order to price it competitively. This is most likely part of their long term strategy to increase sales and eventually increase their market share.
