The Centuro is a feature-loaded commuter motorcycle from Mahindra which was launched in July, last year. Despite the bike’s competitive price, the Centuro has several premium features, but the lack of a front disc brake was always felt. Now though, a test mule of the Centuro fitted with a front disc brake has been spotted and is expected to make it to production soon.
Mahindra had displayed the Centuro equipped with a disc brake, first, at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, earlier this year. The Centuro is a very well-equipped motorcycle and has several premium features like a flip-key with 96-bit secure access, an engine mobiliser, LED parking lamps and a distance to empty indicator; the addition of a disc brake will further improve the bike’s value-for-money quotient.
The Centuro is powered by a four-stroke 107cc petrol engine which produces 8.5bhp and 8.5Nm of torque, which is on par with its rivals in the segment. The air-cooled engine is mated to a four-speed all down gearbox via a chain drive system.
The disc brake is most likely to be offered as an optional extra only in the top-end O1 variant. The motorcycle currently retails at Rs 47,934 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the new feature is expected to add Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 more to its price. The Centuro goes up against a host of other commuter bikes like Bajaj Discover 100, Yamaha YBR 110, TVS Jive, Honda Dream Yuga, Honda CB Twister and Hero Passion PRO.
