It's no secret that Mahindra pioneered the electric car market in India through their Reva sub-brand. Now with government's focus on clean energy transportation, almost all manufacturers are developing new electric vehicles for India, including Mahindra Two Wheelers.
The company is looking to introduce the GenZe scooter in India. Developed in Silicon valley, the GenZe is currently being sold in United States. The GenZe is positioned as an urban and utilitarian product in the US. This is why the scooter supports phone application integration. The rider can check the scooter's battery status on the phone, along with the location of the scooter. There's a big utility space under the pillion seat as well that can eat up quite a few things.
The scooter gets a 1.6kWh Li-ion removable battery, which takes 3.5 hours to charge from zero to 100 per cent. This battery holds enough charge to last up to a little less than 50km. Because of its user-friendly nature, the battery can be removed from under the seat very easily.
We're expecting Mahindra to launch this product within 2-3 years. Its immediate focus is to launch new premium motorcycles under the Jawa brand. It is also contemplating on introducing the Peugeot range of scooters.
